Andreas Urschlechter
Andreas Urschlechter (born March 2, 1919 in Nuremberg ; † April 19, 2011 ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD , later non-party). From 1957 to 1987 he was Lord Mayor of Nuremberg.
Life and work
After graduating from Melanchthon-Gymnasium in Nuremberg , Urschlechter began studying law and political science as well as economics and business administration at the University of Erlangen , which he completed with two state law examinations and a doctorate in Dr. jur. finished. He was a participant in the Second World War in 1944/45 , initially worked as a lawyer after the end of the war and in 1946 became deputy head of the reconstruction department of the city of Nuremberg. He later received his appointments to the legal council or senior legal council. Urschlechter was initially a member of the SPD, from which he left in July 1982.

Urschlechter had been a professional councilor of the city of Nuremberg since 1955, was a member of the Central Franconian District Assembly from 1958 to 1982 , was its president from 1959 to 1962 and was its vice-president from 1962 to 1978. He was also a member of the Bavarian Senate from 1968 to 1985 .
Public offices
Urschlechter served as Lord Mayor of Nuremberg from 1957 to 1987 and was chairman of the Bavarian City Association from 1972 to 1975 . In 1957 he was Germany's youngest mayor, and towards the end of his term in office he was the senior mayor of a major German city.
Trivia
The Bremen shipowner Bernhard Dettmer named an inland vessel after Urschlechter in 1970. The "Andreas Urschlechter" was the 124th ship in the fleet of the Dettmer shipping company; Dettmer justified the naming with the fact that Urschlechter advocated "the idea of a Rhine-Main-Danube connection from the North Sea to the Black Sea". In 1986 the tanker was renamed Dettmer Tank 5.
