Gottlieb von Merkel
Gottlieb Merkel , from 1905 Ritter von Merkel , (born June 29, 1835 in Nuremberg ; † October 13, 1921 there ) was a German doctor. He is the grandson of the Nuremberg businessman Paul Wolfgang Merkel . One of his sons is Hermann Merkel .
Merkel studied medicine at the universities in Halle , Würzburg , Prague and Erlangen . In Erlangen he was a student of Franz von Dittrich and received his doctorate there in 1859.
From 1858 he worked as an assistant doctor at the Nuremberg hospital on Frauentorgraben and in 1862 he established himself as a doctor in Nuremberg. In 1865 he received his first public position as a coroner. From 1888 to April 1908 he was director of the municipal hospital.
In 1871 Merkel was appointed to the Central Franconian Medical Committee. He is the author of numerous treatises on dust inhalation diseases, trichinosis and meningitis . He was a member of the Nuremberg Freemasons Lodge on the three arrows .
