Gerd Lohwasser

Gerd Lohwasser (born October 2, 1941 in Karlsbad , Sudetenland ; † January 5, 2016 ) was a German politician of the CSU and from 1990 to 2003 the district council president of Middle Franconia . From 1987 to 2011 he was the third and second mayor of the city of Erlangen.

Life

Lohwasser moved with his family to Erlangen in 1952 and attended the Ohm-Oberrealschule, today's Ohm-Gymnasium . After graduating from high school in 1962, Lohwasser did his military service and from 1964 studied teaching at the Nuremberg University of Education and completed his studies with the second state examination. He then worked at the PH, which later became the educational science faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, as a training teacher. In 1986 Lohwasser went to the state education authority of the city ​​of Nuremberg , where he was promoted to school council.

In 1967 Lohwasser married his wife Bärbel († 2010 ), with whom he has two sons.

politics

Lohwasser joined the CSU in 1970 and was elected to Erlangen's city council in 1972. From 1978 to 1987 he was chairman of the CSU parliamentary group in the Erlangen city council. In 1978 and 1984 Lohwasser ran for the CSU for the office of Lord Mayor of Erlangen, but was unable to prevail against the then incumbent, the SPD politician Dietmar Hahlweg . In 1987 he was elected honorary third mayor by the Erlangen city council. After the CSU won the local elections in 1996, Lohwasser was promoted to full-time second mayor. From 2008 he held this position on a voluntary basis. On June 30, 2011, Gerd Lohwasser resigned as mayor for personal reasons and also resigned from his city council mandate.

From 1982 to 2003 Lohwasser was a member of the Central Franconian District Assembly . From 1990 to 2003 he was its president.
