The Ohm-Gymnasium is a grammar school in Erlangen . It is named after the German physicist Georg Simon Ohm , who was born in Erlangen in 1789.

history

Before 1833

Egloffsteinsches Palais, 2012

In 1817, Dr. Carl Leopold Liederer von Liederskron founded the school as a private educational and teaching institute as a supplement to the elementary schools and the Latin school that already existed in Erlangen. This should meet the economic and social needs, including through increased German lessons.

From 1833

On the basis of a municipal resolution, the private school was converted into the “Royal Agriculture and Trade School” in 1833. At that time, science and professional subjects shaped the school. In 1837 the school moved to the rear building of the Egloffstein Palace due to the increasing number of pupils . Its front building was used by the school from 1877 when it was renamed the six-class “Royal Bavarian Realschule”. Girls were also accepted for the first time in 1919. With the establishment of a 7th grade and the first graduate grade in 1929, the expansion to a higher school was completed. In 1939 the school was named “Ohm-Oberrealschule” after the physicist Georg Simon Ohm, who was born in Erlangen. In 1954, the new construction of the school and sports buildings began at the current location. Since 1965 the school has been called "Ohm-Gymnasium Erlangen". The renovation of the school began in July 2014.
