Joachim Gruber (philologist)

Joachim Gruber (born June 17, 1937 in Ansbach ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

Gruber studied Classical Philology, German and Indo-European Studies at the Universities of Erlangen from 1956 to 1961 (joining the local student association AMV Fridericiana in the winter semester of 1956/57) and Hamburg . In 1961 he passed the state examination and received his doctorate. 1962–63 he worked on the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae , then was a trainee lawyer at the Theresiengymnasium in Munich and in 1965 went to teach at the Ohm-Gymnasium in Erlangen. From 1968 he worked at FAU Erlangen , where he completed his habilitation in 1974. From 1990 until his retirement in 2000 he was C3 Professor for Classical Philology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Research priorities

Gruber deals with the Latin literature of late antiquity ( Ausonius , Boethius , Claudian , Panegyric), especially in its historical-cultural context. In addition, his subjects are geography, topography and the urban system of the Mediterranean area as conditions of ancient literature as well as Latin literature by German humanists (especially Conrad Celtis ).

He is the founder of the annual training event Didagmata for teachers of ancient languages ​​and co-founder of the internet magazine PLEKOS.
