Florian Josef Janik (* 6. March 1980 in Erlangen ) is a German politician of the SPD . He has been Lord Mayor of Erlangen since May 1, 2014 .

Life

In July 1999 Janik graduated from the Ohm-Gymnasium Erlangen . From 2000 to 2005 he studied social sciences at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , which he graduated with a degree in social economics (Univ.) . The topic of the diploma thesis was the implementation of the new basic security for job seekers - a case study in a big city with a municipal option . From 2001 to 2005 he was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . In February 2010 the doctorate to Dr. rer. pole. (summa cum laude) with the topic From a company perspective - labor market analyzes based on the IAB company panel . In 1999 and 2000 he did his community service as a mobile social aid service at the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Erlangen-Höchstadt . Since 2005 he has been a research assistant at the Institute for Employment Research at the Federal Employment Agency and has been working in the National Educational Panel Study since 2009 , with a focus on continuing education and lifelong learning.

Florian Janik is married and has two children.

Political career

In 1998 he joined the SPD and was elected to the Erlangen city council in spring 2002. In 2008 he took over the group chairmanship there. He is currently a member of the district executive committee of the SPD Erlangen.

In the Mayor election on March 16, 2014, he was able to unite 37.2% of the votes. In the runoff election on March 30, 2014, he prevailed with 63.7% against the previous incumbent Siegfried Balleis ( CSU ). His first term of office began on May 1, 2014. In the local elections on March 15, 2020, he ran against seven other candidates and received 39.2% of the votes in the first ballot. In the runoff election on March 29, 2020, he prevailed against Jörg Volleth (CSU) with 54.5%. Janik will remain Lord Mayor of Erlangen until April 30, 2026.
