The Kunstmuseum Erlangen is a regional exhibition center, archive and museum for contemporary art in Erlangen . It is located in the Loewenichschen Palais . The city of Erlangen has been the sponsor since July 2016.

Since 1998, the art museum has exhibited works of art that were created after 1945 and were made by artists who have special ties to the Nuremberg and Erlangen regions . The 300 square meter exhibition rooms are located on the first floor of the Loewenich Palace and the southern extension built in 2002. Five to nine individual, group or themed exhibitions by both established and young artists, as well as commemorative exhibitions by important post-war artists in the region, are shown each year. Exhibits include paintings , graphics , sculpture and photographs . There are also exhibitions with works from local collectors. In addition to the exhibition activities, an archive, a library and an art collection of regional art are being set up. The Oskar Koller Foundation was also located in the building from 2006 to 2009 .

The building previously used by the Deutsche Bundespost was opened in 1998 by the Förderverein Kunstmuseum Erlangen e. V. (from May 2001 Kunstmuseum Erlangen e.V. ) acquired. This was founded in 1989 from the Kunstverein Erlangen . In 2016 the association handed over the sponsorship of the art museum to the city of Erlangen.
