The 2013/14 DEL season was the 20th season since the foundation of the German Ice Hockey League , the highest league in German ice hockey . 14 teams took part this season. The championship won for the first time ever by ERC Ingolstadt .

Shortly before the deadline for submitting the license documents on May 24, 2013, Arena Hannover GmbH sold the Hannover Scorpions license to the previous second division club Schwenninger Wild Wings .

The 14 clubs played a double round with 52 games per club. The best six teams qualified directly for the play-off quarter-finals, the teams in positions 7 to 10 played two more play-off participants in best-of-three series. For the first time, the other play-off series were played entirely in the Best of Seven mode.
