Robert Sabolič (born September 18, 1988 in Jesenice , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss National League since July 2019 .
Career
Robert Sabolič began his career at his hometown club HK Jesenice and went through all the youth teams before he made his debut in the Slovenian ice hockey league for the youth professional team HD mladi Jesenice in the 2006/07 season after he had been out of play for the entire previous year due to a back injury had to. In the following years he established himself as a regular at the club. He made his breakthrough in the 2008/09 season when he scored 47 points scorer in the regular season. A year later he played for the main team of HK Jesenice for the first time in the Austrian ice hockey league.
In the 2010/11 season he formed together with Rok Tičar and Žiga Jeglič a trio of strikers, which despite the fact that none of the players was older than 22 at the beginning of the season, was in the forefront of the scoreboard and the club was one made possible a good start to the new season. He was able to increase himself to 59 scorer points, including 33 goals, in 54 games. After the end of the season, the international left HK Jesenice, with whom he had won the Slovenian championship title in 2010 and 2011 , and went to the Swedish second division team Södertälje SK for the 2011/12 season , where the striker signed a contract for two seasons. In the summer of 2012, his contract with Södertälje was terminated prematurely.
In January 2013 Sabolič moved to ERC Ingolstadt under contract. He managed a debut made to measure, as he was able to score the first goal for his new club in the first game. At the end of the 2013/14 season he won the German championship with the ERC and made a significant contribution as the top scorer in the playoffs. Between 2014 and 2016 he was on the ice at HC Sparta Prague in the Czech extra league.
Between 2016 and 2019 Sabolič played in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) , first for Admiral Vladivostok and from January 2018 for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . For the 2019/20 season he moved to the Swiss National League for HC Ambrì-Piotta .
International
For Slovenia , Sabolič took part in an official tournament for the first time at the 2011 World Cup in the top division, but had to accept relegation there. After he achieved immediate promotion with his team in Division I the following year , he played again in the top division in 2013 and 2015 . In 2016 he played again in Division I. He also represented his colors in qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics and the Games in Sochi , in which the Slovenes achieved a surprising seventh place.
