Dominic Zwerger (born July 16, 1996 in Dornbirn ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss National League since 2017 .

Career

Dominic Zwerger began ice hockey at Dornbirner EC and then played for the junior teams of the Swiss clubs SC Rheintal, SC Herisau and HC Davos from 2009 to 2013 .

At the CHL Import Draft 2013 he was selected in the second round in 106th place by the Spokane Chiefs from Washington , for which he then ran for three seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He was able to steadily increase his points account and in his last season already scored 28 goals and 31 assists in 71 missions, making him the top goalscorer and second-best scorer of the Chiefs.

In September 2016 Zwerger was signed by league opponent Everett Silvertips , who in return gave the Chiefs the right to pick for the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. At the Silvertips he scored 32 goals, 58 assists and a plus / minus balance of +20 in 77 appearances.

In May 2017 Zwerger signed a contract for three seasons with the Swiss NL club HC Ambrì-Piotta .

International

Dominic Zwerger made his first international appearance for Team Austria at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck .

He was also a participant in the 2013 U18 World Championship in Tychy , where he took third place in Division IB with the U18 national team, contributing three goals and one assist. Together with Philipp Lindner , he also led the team's plus / minus balance. Also in 2013 he competed with the U20 national team at the World Cup for this age group in Amiens .

At the U18 World Cup in 2014 in Székesfehérvár , he finished second with the team and was also the Austrian top scorer with three goals and four assists. In 2016 he played at the U20 World Cup in Vienna , scored three goals and four assists again and once again finished second with the team in Division IA. Zwerger was also top scorer of the division with his seven points.

Zwerger made his debut for the senior national team on November 9, 2017 at the Austria Cup in Innsbruck, scoring the 1-0 lead against Norway .
