Fabio Hofer (* 23. January 1991 in Lustenau , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian ice hockey player on the position of the center , which since April 2018 when HC Ambri-Piotta in the Swiss National League is under contract.

Career

Fabio Hofer began his career in the youth and juniors of the EHC Lustenau and SPG Dornbirn / Lustenau. From 2008 he played for the EC Dornbirn in the second-class national league, where he was able to celebrate the championship title in the same year. After the team became runner-up in 2009, the Dornbirn team also won the championship title in 2010. Hofer ended the season with 41 points in 33 appearances as one of the strongest domestic players.

In May 2010 Hofer moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg in the top division of the multinational Erste Bank Ice Hockey League, where he stayed until 2014 and won the Austrian championship title in 2011. With the fighting team he was Austrian champion in 2011 and 2014 , won the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga in 2011 and the European Trophy for 2012. He also played eleven appearances in the national league and 21 appearances in the international Red Bulls Hockey Rookies Cup for Salzburg's farm team .

In the summer of 2014, Hofer was signed by the EHC Linz and was deployed on the second line with Rob Hisey and Andrew Kozek . Hofer got 29 points in 42 games in the main round before he injured his knee and had to undergo surgery before the placement round in an international match in the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge against Italy . He could therefore not be used in the play-offs, where the Linz reached the semi-finals. Due to his achievements, he was offered a contract until 2017/18 in 2015, which Hofer signed.

In 2015/16 Linz reached the semi-finals again, with Hofer contributing 41 points (24 goals + 17 assists) and the second best Austrian goalscorer in the league behind Manuel Geier (27 goals) from the EC KAC.

After a strong 2017/18 season, in which he scored 27 goals in 66 appearances for Linz and made 41 assists, he was signed by HC Ambrì-Piotta from the Swiss National League beginning with the 2018/19 season  .

International

Fabio Hofer participated in the U18 World Cup in Division I 2009 , the U20 World Cup in 2010 and the U20 World Cup in Division I in 2011 , with bronze medals being won in 2009 and 2011. In 2011 Hofer was also the best Austrian at the World Cup with six points in five games.

He made his debut for the Austrian men's national team on November 12, 2011 in a 5-1 defeat in a friendly against Japan in Miskolc, Hungary . During the 2016 World Cup in Division I , Hofer was re-nominated for Team Austria and made four appearances with two assists. The Austrians finished the World Cup in fourth place in Division I. He also played with the Alpine nationals in Division I at the 2017 World Cup . This time he was promoted to the top division.
