The EHC Lustenau is an Austrian ice hockey club from Lustenau ( Vorarlberg ), which currently plays in the second-class Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL). The Lustenau's greatest successes are nine championship titles in the Austrian national league . Werner Alfare, who resigned after the 2010/11 season after more than 30 years, was the long-time chairman, manager and sporting director. A group of successors was found, which ensured the continuation of the association.

history

The club originally emerged as the ice hockey section of SC Austria Lustenau , which initially played in the Vorarlberg regional league. In 1970, the EHC Lustenau was founded as an independent ice hockey club and took part in the Arlbergliga and the former Oberliga, which later became the National League. Another milestone was the opening of the Rheinhalle in 1972, which has since hosted the EHC's home games.

After the national league championship title in the 1981/82 season , the club dared to move up to the highest Austrian league (Bundesliga), but rose again after a last place in the table in the next season. Already in the following season the Lustenauer secured the promotion with the National League championship title 1983/84 - six seasons followed in the Bundesliga, but after the 1989/90 season they had to relegate again. Despite financial problems, bankruptcy filing and compulsory settlement after this season, the ice hockey club was able to continue.

In the 1991/92 season , the Lustenau won again the National League championship title, but renounced promotion to the Bundesliga. By merging the national and national leagues, EHC Lustenau played again in the Bundesliga from the 1994/95 season , but voluntarily relegated to the national league after two seasons. In the 1996/97 season , the club again won the national league championship.

Rheinhalle Lustenau

From the 2000/01 season Lustenau played again in the newly founded Uniqa Ice Hockey Bundesliga , for financial reasons the club withdrew to the National League at the beginning of the 2003/04 season . In the 2005/06 season , the EHC Lustenau achieved the seventh National League championship title in club history. The eighth National League championship title followed in the 2008/09 season . After 6 rather mixed seasons, the ninth championship title in the 2014/15 season - meanwhile in the Inter-National League (INL) founded in 2012 - was won with a sweep in the playoff final against VEU Feldkirch . EHC Lustenau has been playing in the multinational Alps Hockey League that was founded at the time since the 2016/17 season.
