The 2014/15 season is the third season of the ice hockey competition of the Inter-National League , which acts as the cross-border successor to the National League . The EHC Lustenau became the champion.

Changes

The defending champions would have been HC Neumarkt , but after the personnel reorganization of the Italian ice hockey association, the teams from South Tyrol were not allowed to play another season in the INL. The Inter National League had to accept this decision. The fact that only a one-year contract for participation was signed with the Italian association was likely to have been a factor. In addition, HDK Maribor had to announce that it cannot take part in the INL. With the two new Austrian clubs, the Steelers Kapfenberg and the Kitzbühler Adlers , 11 teams will ultimately contest the 2014/15 season, which will be played from September 20, 2014 to April 12, 2015 at the latest.

In order to compensate for the financial loss caused by the lost home games after the five Italian clubs left the Inter-National League, the Austrian Ice Hockey Association created an additional competition for the second-highest division, the Austria Cup , in the 2014/15 season the Austrian INL clubs take part.

mode

A basic round is played in the form of a simple round-trip round. Then two groups are formed and another simple round-trip round is played. The five best-placed clubs play the home rights for the quarter-finals in a championship round, the first three receive a vote for their quarter-final opponent. The other clubs form the qualification groups. Places 1-3 in this group qualify for the quarter-finals. This is followed by the quarter-finals in the "Best of Seven" mode, semi-finals and finals in the Best of Five mode .

3-point rule

In the basic round, the points are awarded as follows: 3 points for a win in regular time, 2 points for a win after extra time or penalty shoot-out, 1 point for a loss after penalty shoot-out, 0 points for a defeat in regular time.

Playoffs

The three best-placed teams in the Master Round have home rights as well as the right to vote for the quarter-final opponent. When choosing, the focus was not so much on the placement in the qualifying round (the same thing could also be observed in the EBEL ), but rather on short journeys.
The 4th game in the series Jesenice against Ljubljana had originally won Jesenice in extra time. This was - contrary to the rules of the INL with five - played by order of the referees with four field players. Since the winning goal fell in a power play for Jesenice, the complaint of the referee chairman of Slovenia was accepted and a repetition of the overtime was ordered.
Since Slavija Ljubljana could not keep the repeat date, the overtime and thus the 4th game in the series was certified in favor of Jesenice. Jesenice rose to the semi-finals.
