Scott Barney (born March 27, 1979 in Oshawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with China Dragon since the summer of 2016 .

Career

Scott Barney was selected as the 29th overall player during the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings . From 1995 to 1999 he played for four years in the Ontario Hockey League for the Peterborough Petes . In the 1998/99 season he was also in five regular season games and a playoff game for the Springfield Falcons from the American Hockey League on the ice. On September 28, 1999, Barney suffered a serious back injury in the Kings training camp, which prevented him from playing for three years. He was immediately released by the Kings, but received a trial contract for one year in 2002, which was later extended for another.

In the 2002/03 season Barney played a total of 57 games in the AHL for the Manchester Monarchs from the AHL. He also made his debut in the National Hockey League , where he played five times for the Kings. In the following season, the Canadian played 44 times for the Monarchs and 19 times for the Kings. During the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , Barney was forced to take another year off. After resumption of play, the winger received on August 8, 2005 a contract as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers . During the 2005/06 season Barney played for both the Thrashers and their farm team from the AHL, the Chicago Wolves .

In the 2006/07 season Barney played for the AHL team Grand Rapids Griffins . During the season he moved to league rivals Hershey Bears . The season 2008/09 completed Barney for the Augsburger Panther from the DEL . In September 2009 he completed a few auditions for the Bietigheim Steelers from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga , but was not signed. He then moved to SaiPa Lappeenranta in October 2009 . There he played until November 2010 and scored 48 scorer points in 64 games before he was released on November 20. He was then committed by BK Mladá Boleslav from the tipsport extra league . In January 2011 he left the Czech Republic and returned to Finland, where he was signed by the HPK . Further stations in Europe were the HC Thurgau in the Swiss National League B and the Dornbirner EC in the Austrian National League . After Barney had spent the 2012/13 season with High1 in the Asia League Ice Hockey , the Canadian returned to Europe in the summer of 2013 and signed a one-year contract with the Italian first division club HC Valpellice with play in the Elite.A . In 2014 he moved to EHC Lustenau in the Inter-National League and in 2016 to China Dragon .
