The China Dragon ( Chinese  中國龍之隊  /  中国龙之队 ) were a hockey team from the Chinese Shanghai , in the since the 2007-08 season Asia League Ice Hockey plays. The team previously played in the league under the names of Hosa and Changchun Fu'ao .

history

At the beginning of the 2004/05 season , the Harbin Ice Hockey Team and Qiqihar Ice Hockey Team announced for the first time two teams from the People's Republic of China each with a team for the season. In the following three years, both of them occupied the last two places in the table by far and missed the qualification for the playoffs. Before the 2006/07 season , both teams had renamed themselves. The Harbin Ice Hockey Team from then on played as Hosa and the Qiqihar Ice Hockey Team under the name Changchun Fu'ao .

Cooperation with the San Jose Sharks

For the 2007/08 season , the two Chinese teams merged and renamed themselves China Sharks . With the help of the Chinese Winter Sports Association , a cooperation was concluded with the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League , who supported the Chinese with five players from the minor leagues and three coaches during the season. In return, the San Jose Sharks took over the club's naming rights. The background of the cooperation is to increase the popularity of the sport in the most populous country on earth. Despite the support from North America, the Sharks finished the season as the worst team in the league, with only three wins from 30 games. The imported players clearly stood out from the roster in their performances. Before the start of the 2008-09 season , Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment announced that the team's headquarters would be relocated from Beijing to Shanghai and that Songjiang Stadium would replace Beijing Shijixing Sports Center as the new home ground. Due to changed rules in league operations, the Sharks were also allowed to play in the new season with seven foreign players in the squad, whereupon with Wade Flaherty , Steve McKenna and Adam Taylor three players with experience from the National Hockey League were committed. Furthermore, Flaherty also took over the post of goalkeeping coach, while McKenna, as a playing assistant coach , should support head coach Derek Eisler . The cooperation ended in summer 2009 and the team was renamed China Dragon . Since then, the team has always occupied the last place in the league by a large margin, although there has been an upward development in sport since the 2015/16 season. In 2017, the team stopped playing.

The China Sharks used the logo of the Cleveland Barons , a former farm team of the San Jose Sharks, as their logo .
