The Nordic Vikings are a Chinese ice hockey club from Beijing that played in the Asia League Ice Hockey in the 2005/06 season .

history

In 2001, Per-Erik Holmström , CEO of Financial Hearings AB and Tommy Gustafsson , former chairman of Svenska Hockeyligan , planned to relocate a team from the National Hockey League (NHL) from the United States to Europe. However, this could not be implemented due to the rules of the NHL. Thereupon, both in cooperation with the International Ice Hockey Federation, promoted ice hockey in Asia with the help of players from Scandinavia. The Nordic Vikings were founded in 2005 and received a starting place in the Asia League Ice Hockey that same year .

In their first and only ALIH season 2005/06 under coach Holmström, the team reached fifth place in regular time, but was eliminated in the first round of the play-offs after 3-1 games against the Ōji Eagles . As a result, the club remained inactive, but founded a team again in 2013.

In March 2014 and from March to April 2015, the Nordic Vikings played a total of six games against the Chinese national ice hockey team , all of which they won. In 2014, the club was one of the founding members of the China Bandy Federation , the successor to the Chinese Ice Hockey Federation, which until then had represented Chinese bandy at the Federation of International Bandy . The former coach and founder of the Vikings Per-Erik Holmström took over a board position as well as a position in the coaching staff of the national team.
