Career

Jón Gíslason began his career as a hockey player in his native Akureyri with the record champions Skautafélag Akureyrar , for whom he made his debut in the Icelandic ice hockey league at the age of 17 . When he became from 2001 to 2005 with his crew always Icelandic champion, he spent the 2005/06 season of the Asia League Ice Hockey by Beijing to the Nordic Vikings , a team that should give the young Scandinavians international match practice. With the Vikings he finished fifth out of nine teams. When the Nordic Vikings stopped playing after a year, Jón returned to Akureyri and won the Icelandic national championship again with Skautafélag in 2008, 2010 and 2011. He then moved to the second highest Danish league, the 1st division , to Amager Ishockey , where he played until the end of 2013. Since the beginning of 2014 he has been under contract with Skautafélag Akureyrar again, where he is on the ice for both teams ( Vikingar and Jötnar ). With Vikingar he won the Icelandic championship title again in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

In the following year, the Icelanders could not take part in the World Cup, but had to play the qualification for 2002, which they achieved with wins against Luxembourg (6: 2) and Iceland (20: 1). In 2002 he played for Iceland in Division III and a year later in Division II.

Parallel to his appearances in the junior teams, Jón Gíslason already played in the men's national team . He made his debut as a 16-year-old at the D-WM 2000 when he finished fifth out of nine teams with the Icelanders.
