Iceland national ice hockey team

The Icelandic national ice hockey team for men is ranked 34th in the IIHF world rankings after the 2017 World Cup and plays in Division II at the World Cup . The national team is organized by the Icelandic Ice Hockey Federation .

In 1999 the team took part in an ice hockey world championship for the first time , but the team has not yet won a medal. The Icelandic national team has never qualified for the Olympic Games . The team has been playing in third-rate Division II without interruption since 2007. At the 2014 World Cup , they achieved their best ever World Cup result with second place in the A group of Division II.

This is in stark contrast to reality, as Iceland is considered the weakest among the northern European ice hockey nations Sweden , Finland , Norway and Denmark .
