The men's national ice hockey team of the United Arab Emirates was ranked 46th in the IIHF world rankings in March 2018 . Since 2010 she has regularly participated in the Asian Winter Games and the IIHF World Championships .

history

The United Arab Emirates national ice hockey team was founded in 2007. In its first year, it took part in the Asian Winter Games for the first time and played its first official international match against Thailand on January 26, 2007 , which it won 4-0. Only one day later, with a 0:38, the highest defeat in their history followed when the Emirates played against the favorites Kazakhstan . At the end of the tournament they reached sixth place with eleven participants.

In June 2008, the United Arab Emirates took part in the first ever Arab Cup of Ice Hockey , which they won ahead of competition from Morocco, Kuwait and Algeria. Following the tournament, the association became one of the six founding members of the Arab Ice Hockey Federation .

In 2009 the team won the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia, which was held for the second time in their own country . In the final, Thailand was defeated 5-3.

In April 2010, the United Arab Emirates took part in a World Championship tournament of the IIHF for the first time. In Group A of Division III, the Emirates team lost all three games, but were able to score at least one goal in every game and were only marginally defeated 2: 3 by the team from Luxembourg . A month later, the team took part in the first edition of the golf ice hockey championship . The United Arab Emirates won the tournament in all four events from 2010 to 2016 and remained undefeated. In 2012 the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia was won again. In 2013 they started again in the world championship. About a qualifying tournament you qualified for the division, but where you lost all five games. Also in the following years they played in Division III, with each taking the penultimate place. In 2016 one paused.

In 2017 they won the Challenge Cup of Asia for the third time after finishing second behind Taiwan three times in a row. It was the last time the UAE participated in this competition. In 2019 they registered for the first time to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games . At the tournament of the pre-qualification round 1 Group N in Luxembourg they missed qualifying for the next round as second behind Kyrgyzstan.
