The Iranian national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team in Iran . The trainer is the German Christian Müller .
history
Ice hockey has been played in Iran since at least the 1970s . After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, ice hockey was officially banned.
From 2013 new ice rinks opened in Tehran , Mashhad and on the island of Kish .
In 2015 the decision was made to set up an Iranian national team and to take part in the Winter Asian Games 2017 in Sapporo , Japan . The team was largely made up of players of Iranian origin who were trained and played in other countries. There were also players from the Iranian national inline hockey team . 2016 several training camps were held, including in Kazakh Almaty , where the first game against a foreign team took place: on August 23, 2016, Iran won against the second team of HK Almaty 5: 4th
At the tournament of the Winter Asian Games 2017, the Iranian team was disqualified in advance because 13 of the 22 players were not eligible to play for the country. The scheduled games in Division II Group B were instead played as friendly games:
- February 18, 2017: Macau - Iran 7-1
- February 20, 2017: Indonesia - Iran 3:10
- February 22, 2017: Malaysia 3-8 Iran
- February 23, 2017: Turkmenistan - Iran 12-2
Christian Müller was the coach.
