The 8th Asian Winter Games was a multinational sporting event. They took place from February 19 to 26, 2017 in Sapporo and Obihiro . The first two Asian Winter Games were held in Sapporo in 1986 and 1990.

Participating countries

Athletes from 32 countries took part in the 2017 Asian Winter Games. In addition to 30 Asian NOCs , Australia and New Zealand were also invited. Athletes from the suspended Kuwait National Olympic Committee competed as Independent Olympic Athletes under the flag of the International Olympic Committee IOC .
