The 2nd Asian Games took place in Manila from May 1 to 9, 1954 .
970 athletes from 18 different member associations of the Olympic Council of Asia took part. The Games featured 77 competitions in eight sports. The Games were opened by Ramon Magsaysay , the third president of the Philippines after independence in 1946. The opening and closing ceremonies were held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila .
The official logo of the games shows a red sun with 16 rays, which was also used in the last Asian Games , and including 20 gold rings. The red or black lettering "Second Asian Games" stands above the sun and "Ever Onward" underneath . Under the rings is the red lettering "Manila 1954" .

Three sports - boxing , wrestling and shooting - were added, while competitions in cycling were no longer held. All other sports were played in 1951 .
Participating Nations
Nine states made their debut in 1954, while two states - Iran and Nepal - stopped participating after 1951.
