Luxembourg national ice hockey team

The Luxembourg national ice hockey team represents Luxembourg at international tournaments and is 42nd in the IIHF world rankings after the 2017 World Cup.Although the Luxembourg Ice Hockey Federation has been a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since 1912 , the national team first took part in a world championship in 1992 . Luxembourg has been taking part in the World Championships regularly since 2002, mostly in the lowest division III. Some of the players are on the ice for teams from France , the rest, including captain Ronny Scheier , consists of players from the Luxembourg club Tornado Luxembourg , which currently plays in the third French division. The coach of the Luxembourg national team is the German Petr Fical .

At the ice hockey world championship in 2008 in their own country, the team took third place in Division III, and thus missed promotion to Division II, from which they were last relegated in 2004 . The games against the two promoted players from North Korea (1: 2) and South Africa (4: 5) were just lost despite the home advantage.

At the World Cup tournament of Division III, Gr. A 2010 , which was held again in Luxembourg, the team took third place and thus again missed promotion to Division II. The Luxembourgers could not use the 2014 home World Cup for promotion.
