In 1991 the team took part in an ice hockey world championship for the first time. The Turks have been playing regularly since 2002 . At that time they finished sixth in Group A in Division II and thus rose to Division III. The next World Cup you finished third in Division III, in 2004 you finished second in Reykjavík and thus rose again to the second division. After only one year, however, Turkey rose again to the lowest World Cup division.
After the 2006 World Cup , the team finished sixth in Group A of Division II at the 2007 World Cup and thus had to enter the third division for the third time in the country's short World Cup history. In 2008 the Turks clearly missed the goal of climbing again as fourth in Division III. At the men's ice hockey world championship in 2009 , however, the Turks managed to get promoted back to Division II as second in Division III, from which they were relegated again. After being promoted again in 2012, at the 2013 World Cup in İzmit , they managed to stay fifth in Division II for the first time. A year later, the Turks had to relegate to Division III. After the promotion was missed in 2015 due to a defeat in the final group game against North Korea , the renewed promotion could be celebrated at the 2016 World Cup .
The national team is coached by Deniz Ince .
