The Bulgarian national ice hockey team ( Bulgarian Национален отбор по хокей на България ) occupied 40th place in the IIHF world rankings after the 2017 World Cup and entered Division III in 2018 .
history
The greatest success of the national team was participation in the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck . After a 1:14 in the first round against Czechoslovakia and five more defeats in the placement round, the tournament ended in twelfth place and thus last.
Most recently, Bulgaria, which has been participating in IIHF World Championships since 1963, played at the 2016 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship in Group B of Division II, which was held in Mexico City . After defeats against North Korea (3: 9), Australia (0:14), Mexico (1:10), New Zealand (1:14) and Israel (3: 5), the Bulgarian national team finished the World Cup without points in last place. Thus, the team rose from promotion two years earlier back to Division III.
Only in four world championships (1970, 1976, 1992 and 1993) did the Bulgarian team take part in the then second-class B group. At all other world championships she played in lower levels of the respective class or division system.
