The Georgian national ice hockey team represents the national ice hockey association of Georgia in ice hockey in international competitions. After the 2017 World Cup , she is ranked 44th in the IIHF world rankings .

history

The Georgian national ice hockey team made its debut in April 2010 in two friendly matches against the national teams of South Africa and Armenia in Yerevan ( Armenia ), as part of their preparation for the hosting of Group B of the World Cup in Division III . Georgia was clearly defeated in both games, especially against hosts Armenia, the Georgians could not keep up and lost the game by 1:22.

Before these two friendlies, the only occasion where a Georgian selection played an international match was the March 1962 Spartakiad in Sverdlovsk , when selections from Lithuania, Kazakhstan and Armenia were played. However, the teams were not official national teams as the Soviet republics were represented by the Soviet national ice hockey team.

In October 2012, the team took part in an official IIHF tournament for the first time, qualifying for Division III of the 2013 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. After three defeats they ended up in last place with a goal difference of 1:28. At the 2014 men's ice hockey world championship , they competed in Division III and again suffered only defeats. At the 2015 World Cup, they finished fifth in the same division with two wins. A year later, the Georgians played for the promotion at the tournament in Istanbul and finished second after a narrow 4-5 opening defeat against the hosts and later promoted Turkey .
