Arab Cup of Ice Hockey

The Arab Cup of Ice Hockey was a tournament for national ice hockey teams from the Arab world that was originally supposed to take place annually. Ultimately, the tournament was held only once in 2008.

After the interest in ice hockey in the Arab states increased since the end of the 1990s and national teams were founded in Morocco , Kuwait , Algeria and the United Arab Emirates , these four countries decided to found the Arab Cup of Ice Hockey .

The Arab Cup of Ice Hockey 2008 was the first and only staging of the competition and took place from June 16 to 20, 2008 in Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arab Emirates . The game was played in the 1,200-seat Abu Dhabi Ice Rink . Each of the five teams played five games together with the final round.

The host United Arab Emirates emerged as the winner of the tournament, followed by the teams from Kuwait , Morocco and Algeria .

With eleven points, including four goals, in five games, the Algerian Harond Litim was voted the most valuable player of the tournament.

Further course

The second Arab Cup of Ice Hockey was in 2009 in Kuwait City Kuwait take place. Due to the establishment of the Arab Ice Hockey Federation and the admission of two more members following the previous year's tournament, organizational difficulties arose and the next Arab Cup was initially postponed to 2010 and ultimately canceled.

To replace the tournament, the national teams of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates founded the golf ice hockey championship in 2010 , in which they met the teams of Saudi Arabia and Oman .
