The Hetzleser Berg is a witness mountain located in the northwest of the Graefenberg area alb .
geography
The mountain is located about 13 km northeast of Erlangen , on the southwestern edge of Franconian Switzerland . It is about five kilometers long and up to two kilometers wide, the highest point is at 549.3 m above sea level. NHN on the northwest corner. With the exception of the south-eastern flank, all slopes are more or less densely forested, the summit plateau, which is 548 meters high, has almost no trees.
The mountain was created by a tectonic shift and consists of layers that encompass the three Jurassic formations Lias , Dogger and Malm . The outcrops are visible at the former Biermaier quarry.
Numerous streams arise on the western flank of the mountain, e.g. the Haarbach , Schlierbach and Reppach , all of which drain the area southwards to the Schwabach as receiving waters .
In the southern area of the summit plateau is the Hetzleser Berg glider airfield , on the eastern slope there is a Jewish cemetery from the 17th century.
history
On the plateau of the Hetzleser Berg there was a 41- hectare hilltop settlement from prehistoric times. Due to the exposed and strategically favorable location, the valleys of the Schwabach as well as the Regnitz and Wiesent can be seen from there. The location also benefited a castle from the early Middle Ages , the remains of which are also protected as a ground monument.
On the south-west slope, below the Burgstall , an approximately 17-hectare strip was designated as the mixed deciduous forest nature reserve on the Hetzleser Berg in 1987 .
fauna and Flora
Large areas of the Hetzleser Berg are designated as fauna-flora habitats . To be emphasized and worthy of protection are head oaks, orchards and especially insect populations, e.g. the stag beetle and rare species of butterflies. The narrow diaper snail , the yellow-bellied toad and the rare stone crabs can be found in the area of the springs .
