The Nippon Paper Cranes ( Japanese 日本 製 紙 ク レ イ ン ズ Nippon Seishi Kureinzu ) are a Japanese ice hockey team based in Kushiro , which currently plays in the Asia League Ice Hockey .

history

The club was established in 1949 as jujo Papaer Kushiro Ice Hockey Club , founded in 1994 the name was Nippon Paper Cranes changed when jujo Papaer and Sanyō Kokusaku Pulp with the support of the Nippon Paper Industries , belongs to the Group which club since then merged.

The Paper Cranes won the first season of the Asia League Ice Hockey in 2004 , in the following two years they could win the regular season, but in the play-off final they failed twice against the Kokudo Ice Hockey Team (today's Seibu Prince Rabbits ). In 2006 , the Japanese championship was won for the first time in the club's history.

With a 3: 1 play-off victory in the final of the 2006/07 season, the Paper Cranes secured their second ALIH title after 2004 against the Seibu Prince Rabbits. The third title was also in a tight final series against the in 2008/09 Seibu Prince Rabbits won 4-3. In 2014 the team from Kushiro won their fourth title in the Asia League. In 2015, the paper cranes could not qualify for the playoffs for the first time. There are also four Japanese national championships.
