Tyson Nash (born May 11, 1975 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 397 games for the St. Louis Blues and Phoenix Coyotes in the National Hockey League in the course of his active career between 1991 and 2008 of the left winger . Nash, who embodied the grinder player type, spent much of his career in the American Hockey League .

Career

Tyson Nash began his career in 1990 with the Sherwood Park Flyers, a year later he joined the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League . In his first season he immediately won the President's Cup and Memorial Cup with the team . In the seasons 1993/94 and 1994/95 he won the President's Cup and Memorial Cup two more times with the Kamloops Blazers. In the 1994 NHL Entry Draft , he was drafted in the tenth round by the Vancouver Canucks . Nash increased his score annually and had his best season in 1994/95 with 84 games and 92 points. In his last season with the Kamloops Blazers he played with Darcy Tucker , Hnat Domenichelli , Shane Doan , Jarome Iginla , Brad Lukowich , Jason Holland and Nolan Baumgartner .

In the 1995/96 season he did not make the jump into the roster of the Vancouver Canucks and played at the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League and the Raleigh IceCaps in the ECHL . The following season he played completely at the Syracuse Crunch and Nash increased his previous year's figures significantly. In the 1997/98 season he set his career record with 184 penalty minutes in the regular season . On July 14, 1998, he signed a contract with the St. Louis Blues . In the 1998/99 season he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Blues, but most of the season he played for the Worcester IceCats in the AHL, where he earned a regular place. A year later, Nash made his final breakthrough in St. Louis, gaining a place on the team that he held for four years. In June 2003 he was transferred to the Phoenix Coyotes .

There, too, he was one of the team's regulars, scoring fewer points than before in St. Louis. For the 2004/05 season he continued to play, as the entire season was canceled due to a lockout . He then played another season with the Phoenix Coyotes. In November 2006 he was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs , but he played the entire season on the farm team with the Toronto Marlies . For the 2007/08 season he decided to continue his career with Nippon Paper Cranes in Japan, where he signed a contract. After a few games in the Asia League Ice Hockey , Tyson Nash decided to end his career.

Tyson Nash joined the Phoenix Coyotes on September 11, 2008 as a sports commentator.
