Career
Fairchild began his ice hockey career in 1991 at the University of Wisconsin – Madison , for which he played in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . Already in his first year he showed good performances and scored 21 scorer points in 41 games. Then some were NHL - Scouts attention to the then 18-year-olds. After all, it was the Los Angeles Kings who selected him in the seventh round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 152nd position. Fairchild stayed at the university for two more years and graduated. He then moved to the American Hockey League to the St. John's Maple Leafs , the farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs .
He played mostly in the AHL and only completed an NHL game in his second season. In the season 1996/97 another 22 missions followed in the NHL, in which he scored two points scorer. For the 1998/99 season , the 1.81 m tall striker joined the Dallas Stars as a free agent . Fairchild couldn't prevail in Dallas . Other career stations in the following years included the Colorado Avalanche .
After he finally figured out hardly any chances of a permanent engagement in the NHL, he was drawn to the German Ice Hockey League with the Eisbären Berlin for the 2002/03 season . Fairchild developed into one of the top performers and was also one of the most important scorers in the team. In 2003 he was in the squad of the US national team , with which he took part in the 2003 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship in Finland . The US team played a bad tournament and even had to tremble for relegation, which they could only secure in the relegation round. The trained striker played six games in which he scored five goals and had plus / minus statistics of +3.
In 2005 and 2006 he won the German championship with the Eisbären Berlin. After his performance waned in the 2006/07 season , Fairchild's contract in Berlin was not renewed. As a result, Vienna was able to convince him of a commitment to the management of Vienna Capitals . In the summer of 2009 he ended his active ice hockey career.
