After Oji Paper, Nippon Paper is the second largest paper and cardboard manufacturer in Japan and one of the 15 largest worldwide.

history

The group, headquartered in Tokyo , was formed on March 30, 2001 from the merger of Nippon Seishi KK ( 日本 製 紙 株式会社 , English Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. ) and Daishōwa Seishi KK ( 大 昭和 製 紙 株式会社 , English Daishowa Paper Manufacturing Co., Ltd. ). Initially, the group operated under the name KK Nippon Unipac Holding ( 株式会社 日本 ユ ニ パ ッ ク ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ). After the merger of the two sub-companies, the group was renamed on October 1, 2004 in KK Nippon Seishi Group Honsha ( Nippon Paper Group, Inc. ). The group of companies includes several dozen subsidiaries and holdings. The company's activities are divided into the four business areas wood pulp and paper , paper-related activities, ( cellulose fiber-based ) furnishing and building materials , and miscellaneous.

The Daishowa Paper Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is known among other things for its former president Ryoei Saito . On May 15, 1990, he bought the most expensive painting in the world at the time, the portrait of Dr. Gachet by Vincent van Gogh .

The subsidiary Nippon Paper Industries is the owner of the ice hockey club Nippon Paper Cranes . The club has been part of the Jūjō Seishi Kushiro ( 十條 製 紙 釧 路 ) company, which was taken over by Nippon Paper in 1994, since it was founded in 1949 .
