The 2012/13 season was the first season of the newly founded ice hockey competition of the Inter-National League , which acts as the transnational successor to the National League . The EHC Bregenzerwald became the first champions of the new league .

In advance

Map of all club locations for the 2012/13 season

The Inter-National-League was born out of the need to reposition the formerly purely Austrian national league . The reason for this was a serious decline in participating teams. The Dornbirner EC and HC Innsbruck got into the Erste Bank Liga , while the EBEL clubs withdrew their farm teams to put together the EBEL Young Star League to start. At the same time, the Slohokej League project failed . This cross-border competition did not take place in the 2012/13 season due to a dispute between the Slovenian Ice Hockey Association (HZS) and the Slohokej operating company.

The field of participants was ultimately formed from a total of six teams from both leagues. With the former EBEL member HK Jesenice , a seventh team should have participated in the INL. Due to financial problems, Jesenice had only been able to end the preseason with a rump team; the club aimed to participate in the INL, but withdrew it at the end of August.

mode

In the regular round, three rounds were played back and forth, with every other weekend planned as a so-called "double weekend" in order to keep travel costs down. After these 36 games, playoffs followed with semi-finals and finals in the best of five mode . The season started on September 15, 2012. The first champion was determined on April 3, 2013.
