Aleš Sila (born June 18, 1987 in Ljubljana , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Újpest Budapest in the multinational MOL league since January 2015 .

Career

Sila began his career in the youth teams of his home club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana and tried his luck abroad for the first time in 2007. At the Springfield Jr. Blues in the North American Hockey League , he acted as a backup for Phil Cook , but ultimately could not prevail. The following year he returned to Ljubljana, where his former team started their second season in the Austrian ice hockey league after a successful start as the reigning runner-up . There he should initially act as a replacement for Michael Morrison , who, however, did not bring the expected performance. Sila took over the position of the first goalkeeper about halfway through the regular season when HDD Ljubljana was already beaten in the lower half of the table. The season ended in last place.

In the 2009/10 season , Norm Maracle was again committed to a transfer card player, and Sila moved back into the second tier. The season was similar to the previous one, when Maracle was fired at halftime and again took over Sila. The team struggled with major financial problems and had to let many of their key players go, which again led to last place.

The 2010/11 season began Sila for the first time as the first goalkeeper, but only made eleven appearances in the Austrian ice hockey league in the further course of the season. In January 2011 he was finally loaned to ATSE Graz from the second Austrian division, the National League , until the end of the season, for which he stood between the posts twelve more times. He also played in Graz in the following season, before returning to Ljubljana in 2012 and initially playing for HK Slavija Ljubljana in both the Inter-National League and the Slovenian league. In 2013 he went back to Olimpija and not only played with the club again in the Austrian ice hockey league, but also won the Slovenian championship title again in 2014. In January 2015 he moved to Újpest Budapest in the multinational MOL league .

International

For Slovenia, Sila took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships 2005 in Division I and the U20 World Junior Championships in Division I in 2005 , 2006 and 2007 . In the senior division, he was part of the Slovenian squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2009 and 2010 . At the 2009 World Cup he was not used as a substitute goalkeeper. At the 2010 World Cup, he played his first game at a World Cup for the senior national team, where he was able to fend off all shots and rose with his team to the top division. In addition, he was in the squad of the Slovenes in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 , where he was also not used.
