Career
Igor Rataj began his career in his hometown at HK ŠKP Poprad , for which he made his debut in the first division , the top division of the Czechoslovak Federation, in the 1992/93 season . In the following years he played for Poprad in the newly founded Slovakian extra league , before moving to HC Slovan Bratislava in 1998 . With Slovan he won his first Slovak championship in 2000 . In the summer of 2001 Rataj was committed by Amur Khabarovsk from the Russian Super League, but he left this club after 13 games this season and returned to Slovan Bratislava. In the same season he won another league title with Slovan and a year later this success could be repeated.
Before the 2003/04 season he signed a contract with HC Liberec from the Czech extra league . Rataj did not fulfill this contract, but left Liberec after nine games of the season. He spent the rest of the season at HC Znojemští Orli . In summer 2004 he tried again in Liberec and completed a total of two seasons for the "White Tiger". In 2005 he reached the playoff semi-finals with this team. Via HC Lasselsberger Plzeň he came to HC Slavia Prague in 2006, with whom he won his first Czech championship title in the 2007/08 season .
In May 2008 it was announced that Rataj had signed a contract with the Slovak first division club HC Košice . After 14 games for Košice, however, he moved back to his home club, the HK ŠKP Poprad, as he was mostly only used in the third row of attacks and was therefore dissatisfied with his role.
In October 2010 he left his home club and accepted a contract offer from MHC Martin . A month later, the contract with the MHC Martin was terminated. Until the end of the season he played for his league rival MsHK Žilina . For the 2011/12 season he moved to EK Zell am See from the National League , the second Austrian division.

In addition to his successes at club level, Igor Rataj has also played a number of international matches: So far, he has played 37 games for the Slovak national team , scoring eight goals. However, so far he has not been used in international championships.
