The MHC Mountfield Martin was a Slovak ice hockey club from Martin , which was founded in 1932 and last played in the Slovak extra league between 2005 and 2017 . Due to overindebtedness, the club did not receive a license for the 2017/18 season and then stopped operations.

history

Logo of the association until 2010

Until 1993, the club played in the second and third division of Czechoslovakia, but mainly in the second division. Due to the division of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the team was accepted into the extra league and was able to reach third place in the Slovak championship in the first year of participation.

At the end of the 1998/99 season, the club was relegated to the first division , but was able to rise again a year later. In the 2003/04 season , the team from Martin only finished last in the Extraliga and was relegated again. A year later, MHC Martin rose again to the extra league and was able to establish itself in the midfield of the division in the following years.

In January 2009, winning the Continental Cup was the greatest success in the club's history. In 2010, Mountfield took over the club's naming rights and acted as the main sponsor.

House searches were carried out on the club's premises in May 2017, relating to financial irregularities in 2014 and 2015. The licensing process then failed due to over-indebtedness and the professional team was dissolved.
