Radovan Somík (born May 5, 1977 in Martin , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player who for many years played for HC Pardubice and HC Zlín in the Czech extra league , at MHC Martin in the Slovak extra league , for the Philadelphia Flyers in national hockey League and at Severstal Tscherepowez in the Russian Super League was active.

Career

Radovan Somík began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with MHC Martin , for whom he was active in the Slovak extra league from 1993 to 1998 . During this time he was selected in the fourth round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft as the 100th player of the Philadelphia Flyers . First, however, the attacker played in the 1998/99 season at HC Dukla Trenčín , before he was promoted to the extra league in the following season with MHC Martin, who was now relegated to the second-class first division .

After the right-handed shooter ran for HC Zlín in the Czech Extra League from 2000 to 2002 , he was called to North America by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2002, for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season . In his rookie year , the Slovakian scored 20 points in 65 games for the Americans. In the following season he ran again mainly for the Flyers in the NHL, where he also played a game for their farm team , the Philadelphia Phantoms from the American Hockey League .

In the summer of 2004 Somík first signed with MHC Martin, who was relegated again to the second-class first division, but moved to Vsetínská hokejová from the Czech extra league after only two games . The 2004/05 season ended the 2002 World Champion with the Malmö Redhawks from the Swedish Elitserien , with which he could not prevent relegation to HockeyAllsvenskan . After relegation, the former NHL player left the Swedes and signed with Severstal Tscherepowez from the Russian Super League , for which he played the following two years. Between 2007 and 2015 Somík was under contract with HC Pardubice from the Czech Republic and played a total of 378 Extraliga games during this time. In 2010 and 2012 he won the Czech championship title with Pardubice . He missed the entire 2014/15 season due to an injury.

He ended his career in October 2015 due to an injury.

International

For Slovakia Somík took part in the U20 Junior B World Championship in 1995 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 1997 . He was also part of the Slovak squad at the 2001 , 2002 , 2007 and 2008 World Championships and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey .
