HK Dukla Trenčín is an ice hockey club in the city of Trenčín in Slovakia , which plays in the Slovak Tipsport league and has won three championship titles since 1993. The club plays its home games in Zimný Štadión Trenčín, built in 1960 .

history

From 1956, the army sports clubs in Czechoslovakia were reorganized. In 1962 it was decided to relocate the existing club VTJ Dukla Opava to Trenčín and rename it to VTJ Dukla Trenčín . As a result, Dukla took part in the second division of Czechoslovakia, the 2nd division . 1966, 1968 and 1971 Dukla reached the championship of the Slovak group of the league, the later 1. Slovenská národná hokejová league , but failed each on promotion to the 1st league , the top division of Czechoslovakia. It was not until 15 years after its founding that the club rose to the top division in 1977 after another championship, but was only able to establish itself there temporarily and rose again to the second division in 1982. A year later, however, Dukla again won the championship title of the 1st SNHL and rose again to the 1st division.

In the following years Dukla placed mostly at the bottom of the league table, but in 1989 the team around Vladimír Růžička was able to occupy second place and win the runner-up in the playoffs, while Tesla Pardubice was Czechoslovakian champions . The club achieved the same placement a year later, this time behind HC Sparta Prague . In the penultimate season of the joint league of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, 1991/92, Dukla Trenčín took first place in the west season after the regular season. In the playoffs Dukla first beat Poldi Kladno 3-2, HC Litvínov 3-1 and scored in the playoff final on HC Škoda Plzeň . After four more games, Plzeň was defeated 3-1 and Dukla Trenčín was able to celebrate the greatest success in the club's history: winning the Czechoslovak championship. Outstanding player in the playoffs was Žigmund Pálffy , who scored 18 goals and eight assists for Trenčín in 13 playoff games.

After the division of the league, Dukla was able to become Slovak champion in the first season of the Slovak extra league and repeated this success in 1997 and 2004 .
