Career
Marcel Hossa began his career as a hockey player in the youth of HK Dukla Trenčín , for whom he was active until 1998. He then moved to North America to the Portland Winter Hawks , for whom he played in the Western Hockey League in the following three years . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the first round as a total of 16th player by the Montréal Canadiens , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2001/02 season . During his time in Montréal, however, Hossa mainly played for the farm teams of the Canadiens, the Québec Citadelles and Hamilton Bulldogs from the American Hockey League .
During the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , Hossa signed a contract with Mora IK from the Swedish Elitserien , where he ran up part of the season together with his brother Marián. After resumption of play in the NHL, Hossa received a contract with the New York Rangers , for which he was regularly used in the following three years. The Rangers had signed the striker in a transfer deal in exchange for Garth Murray . Shortly before the end of the trade deadline in the 2007/08 season , the Slovak was finally handed over to the Phoenix Coyotes , for which he played 14 games by the end of the season. In addition to Hossa, Al Montoya had moved to Arizona. In return, the Coyotes sent Fredrik Sjöström , David LeNeveu and Josh Gratton to the US east coast. In the summer of 2008, the Slovak moved to the Continental Hockey League , where he signed a contract with Dinamo Riga .
At Dinamo he knew how to convince with 22 goals and 35 goals respectively in the next two game years and was the best goalscorer of the KHL in the 2009/10 season . He then signed a two-year contract in May 2010 with the reigning champions of the KHL, Ak Bars Kazan . After a year in Kazan, Hossa's contract was terminated and he moved within the KHL to HK Spartak Moscow . After another contract termination by Spartak Moscow in December 2011, the Slovak returned to his ex-club Dinamo Riga shortly after the beginning of 2012.
From May 2012 he was under contract with KHL newcomer HC Lev Prague , before he moved again to Dinamo Riga a year later, where he was initially one of the strongest offensive forces. In December 2014, he refused to play for the farm team after showing unsatisfactory athletic performance (only 16 points from 39 games). Therefore, along with three other players, including Edgars Masaļskis and Georgijs Pujacs , dismissed. After a brief engagement with his home club HC Dukla Trenčín, Hossa was signed by the Swedish first division club MODO Hockey in January 2015 .
In the 2015/16 season he first played for HC Škoda Plzeň and from December 2015 for HC Oceláři Třinec , before returning to his home club HK Dukla Trenčín in September 2016, where he played for the first time in the professional field.
