Georgijs Pujacs (born June 11, 1981 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Olimp Riga in the Latvian ice hockey league since July 2019 .

Career

Georgijs Pujacs began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown, where he played for HK Pardaugava Riga in the Latvian Ice Hockey League and HK Riga in the East European Hockey League from 1996 to 1998 . After another year in the Latvian capital, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1999 in the ninth round as a total of 264th player by the Boston Bruins , for whom he never played. Instead, the defender ran in the 1999/2000 season for the Rochester Mustangs in the junior league United States Hockey League , and the professional team Anchorage Aces in the West Coast Hockey League . After starting the following season at HK Vilki OP Riga in his Latvian homeland, he left the club after six games. He then received a contract with HK Liepājas Metalurgs , with whom he was able to win the 2002 double from the Latvian Championship and the East European Hockey League. In the 2002/03 season he was again Latvian champions with Liepājas.

Most of the 2003/04 season was Pujacs at Örebro HK in the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, under contract. He then returned to North America, where he played in the 2004/05 season for the Elmira Jackals in the United Hockey League . In the following season, in turn, the left-handed shooter joined the HK Riga 2000 in the Belarusian extra league . From 2006 to 2007 he played for Chimik Moskowskaja Oblast in the Russian Super League before moving to HK Dinamo Minsk in Belarus before the 2007/08 season.

In early November 2007, Pujacs returned to the Super League and was signed by HK Lada Tolyatti . The following summer, the Latvian was ordered by HK Lada Tolyatti in his squad for the newly founded Continental Hockey League , but moved in the course of the 2008/09 season , in early January 2009, to his Latvian league rivals Dinamo Riga . For the 2009/10 season Pujacs signed a contract with HK Sibir Novosibirsk . In the following two and a half years he completed over 130 KHL games for Novosibirsk before he left the club in January 2012 and moved to HK Awangard Omsk .

From July 2013, Pujacs was again under contract with Dinamo Riga and was initially assistant captain at Dinamo in the 2013/14 season before he was selected as team captain for the following season. In December 2014, he refused to play for the farm team after previously showing unsatisfactory athletic performance (only 2 scorer points from 32 games). Therefore, together with three other players, including Edgars Masaļskis and Marcel Hossa , sacked. Two days later, Pujacs was signed by Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk and was under contract there until October 2015.

Between 2016 and 2018, Pujacs played again with Dinamo Riga in the Continental Hockey League before moving to HK Prizma Riga in August 2018 . He played six games for HK Prizma before he was signed by the Dresdner Eislöwen from DEL2 at the end of September 2018 . First, he received a trial contract that was later extended to 2019.
