West Coast Hockey League
The West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) was an ice hockey minor league in the USA , in whose game operation from 1995 to 2003 clubs from the western states of the country, namely Alaska , Arizona , California , Colorado , Idaho , Nevada and Washington participated .
The league started in 1995 with the following six teams:
The trophy, which was won by the respective champions of a season was the Taylor Cup , named after the founder of the league, the addition to the franchises from Bakersfield , Fresno and Reno were half the teams.
In May 2003, the WCHL and the Taylor Cup were taken over by the East Coast Hockey League , which then changed its official name to the ECHL , as it now operated nationwide. With franchises from Bakersfield, Fresno, Idaho , Long Beach and San Diego , six of the former WCHL teams play in the West and Pacific Divisions of the ECHL National Conference today .
