The Alaska Gold Kings were an American ice hockey team based in Fairbanks , Alaska . The team played in the West Coast Hockey League from 1995 to 1997 .

history

The club was founded in 1995 as a franchise of the West Coast Hockey League . In this you were one of seven founding members. With a fourth place in the regular season they immediately reached the playoffs for the Taylor Cup in the 1995/96 season , in which they were defeated by the eventual champions San Diego Gulls in the best-of-five series with 2-3 wins. The following season ended the team from Alaska in sixth and thus penultimate place, which is why the playoffs were missed. Then those responsible withdrew the team from the WCHL game operations and relocated it to Colorado Springs , Colorado in 1998 , where it took part in the WCHL game operations under the name Colorado Gold Kings in the following years .

The club were the most northerly franchise in the history of North American professional sport.
