The Tacoma Sabercats were an American ice hockey team from Tacoma , Washington . The team played in the West Coast Hockey League from 1997 to 2002 .
history
The Tacoma Sabercats were founded in 1997 as a franchise of the West Coast Hockey League . They filled the void left in the city by the relocation of the Tacoma Rockets from the Western Hockey League to Kelowna two years earlier. In their first three seasons, they immediately reached the final of the Taylor Cup . After losing to record champions San Diego Gulls with 1: 4 wins in the best-of-seven series in their first year , they completed their most successful season ever in the 1998/99 season. In the finals, the team from Washington was able to take back the previous year's defeat at San Diego with 4-2 wins. In their third and final participation in the final, Tacoma 2000 failed with a sweep at the Phoenix Mustangs . As a result, the Tacoma Sabercats did not get beyond the second playoff round. Following the 2001/02 season, those responsible withdrew the team from the WCHL's game operations and dissolved the franchise.
