The Phoenix Mustangs were an American ice hockey team from Phoenix , Arizona . The team played in the West Coast Hockey League from 1997 to 2001 .
history
The Phoenix Mustangs were founded in 1997 as a franchise of the West Coast Hockey League . In their first season the team reached the playoffs for the Taylor Cup as second in the WCHL South Division straight away , in which, after a 3-2 success in the best-of-five series over the Fresno Fighting Falcons, they only won the second round with a sweep in the best-of-seven series at the eventual champions San Diego Gulls failed. After a first round in the following year, the team from Arizona completed their most successful season in the 1999/2000 season. By winning the playoffs over the Bakersfield Condors , San Diego Gulls and finally the Tacoma Sabercats in the final , which were beaten 4-0, the Phoenix Mustangs won the Taylor Cup for the first and only time. After the following season the franchise was dissolved by those responsible.
