The 1997/98 season was the third regular season of the West Coast Hockey League . During the regular season, the nine teams played 64 games each. In the play-offs, the San Diego Gulls prevailed and won the third Taylor Cup in their club history.
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Alaska Gold Kings became inactive.
- The Idaho Steelheads were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Phoenix Mustangs were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Tacoma Sabercats were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Tucson Gila Monsters were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Fresno Falcons changed their name to Fresno Fighting Falcons.
- The Reno Renegades changed their name to Reno Rage.
