The 1997/98 season was the second regular season of the Western Professional Hockey League . The twelve regular WPHL teams completed 69 games each in the regular season , while the HK Traktor Chelyabinsk from the Russian Super League played a game as a visiting team against each of the other teams. The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Fort Worth Brahmas , while the El Paso Buzzards won the President's Cup for the second time in the play-offs .
