The 1998/99 season was the third regular season of the Western Professional Hockey League . The 17 regular WPHL teams played 69 games each in the regular season , while the two Russian visiting teams HK Traktor Chelyabinsk and Kristall Elektrostal played eight and nine games respectively. The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Shreveport Mudbugs , who won the President's Cup for the first time in the play-offs .
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Russian ice hockey club HK Traktor Chelyabinsk took part as a visiting team in the WPHL and played a total of nine season games.
- The Russian ice hockey club Kristall Elektrostal took part as a visiting team in the WPHL and played a total of eight season games.
- The Abilene Aviators were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Alexandria Warthogs were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Arkansas GlacierCats were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Corpus Christi IceRays were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Tupelo T-Rex were added to the league as an expansion team.
