The 1998/99 season was the eighth regular season of the United Hockey League (until 1997 Colonial Hockey League ). The eleven teams completed 74 matches each in the regular season . The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Muskegon Fury , who won the Colonial Cup for the first time in the play-offs .
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Brantford Smoke were relocated to Asheville , North Carolina and changed their name to Asheville Smoke .
- The Dayton Ice Bandits returned to the league after a year of inactivity , relocated to Utica , New York , and changed their name to the Mohawk Valley Prowlers .
- The Saginaw Lumber Kings changed their name to Saginaw Gears.
