The Thunder Bay Thunder Cats were a Canadian ice hockey team from Thunder Bay , Ontario . The team played from 1991 to 1999 in the Colonial Hockey League (from 1997 United Hockey League).

history

The team was founded in 1991 under the name Thunder Bay Thunder Hawks as a franchise of the Colonial Hockey League , which was held for the first time . The team won the Colonial Cup in 1992, 1994 and 1995 and were also in the finals in the 1995/96 season, but were subject to the Flint Generals in this. During its eight-year existence, the team has been renamed twice (Thunder Bay Senator in 1993 and Thunder Bay Thunder Cats in 1996).

Following the 1998/99 season, the rights to the franchise were bought by Tri Vision Sports and the team relocated to Rockford , Illinois , where it then took part in the UHL game operations under the name Rockford IceHogs , as the league was called from 1997.
