The Knoxville Speed were an American ice hockey team from Knoxville , Tennessee . The team played in the United Hockey League from 1999 to 2002 .

history

The franchise of Madison Monsters of the United Hockey League was founded in 1999 by Madison , Wisconsin , to Knoxville, Tennessee, relocated and renamed Knoxville Speed. The biggest part for the Knoxville Speed ​​in its three years of existence was reaching the second round of the playoffs for the Colonial Cup in the 2000/01 season. After third place in the Southeast Division, the team first defeated the Elmira Jackals in the playoffs , before they failed in round two at the later finalist Asheville Smoke with a sweep in the best-of-five series. In 2000 and 2002, the Americans missed the playoffs.

Following the 2001/02 season, the franchise was dissolved.
