The Knoxville Speed were an American ice hockey team from Knoxville , Tennessee . The team played in the United Hockey League from 1999 to 2002 .
history
The franchise of Madison Monsters of the United Hockey League was founded in 1999 by Madison , Wisconsin , to Knoxville, Tennessee, relocated and renamed Knoxville Speed. The biggest part for the Knoxville Speed in its three years of existence was reaching the second round of the playoffs for the Colonial Cup in the 2000/01 season. After third place in the Southeast Division, the team first defeated the Elmira Jackals in the playoffs , before they failed in round two at the later finalist Asheville Smoke with a sweep in the best-of-five series. In 2000 and 2002, the Americans missed the playoffs.
Following the 2001/02 season, the franchise was dissolved.
